History
This church/youth center has been a vision of mine for over 15 years, and the time is finally right to open it. I have been volunteering at the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) for over 20 years on Saturday mornings in the Spiritual Enrichment program. We develop relationships and trust with the youth, then we don’t see them again until their next incarceration.
The goal of The Church of Second Chances is to reduce the rate of recidivism by maintaining contact with the youth and helping them continue on the spiritual path they began while incarcerated. Our belief is that this will help not only reduce the rate of recidivism, but will also reduce the rate of juvenile crime in Toledo. This program is for post-incarcerated juveniles, and those in the juvenile justice system who have not been incarcerated. We will begin with two meetings/church each week.
We desire to have contact with the court, probation officers, school officials and parents/guardians for each youth. By working together, we believe we can accomplish what’s in the best interest of each juvenile.
